Chairman's Report - February 2008

Val Ottway

The recent tree survey report has been analysed by Councillor Edmundson. As a result of the survey it will be necessary to fell some diseased trees, whilst others will require to have 30% of their crown reduced. The diseased trees are mainly located in Queens Road, Kings Bridge, Brookside and School Green Road. Not all of the trees in these locations are diseased, just one or two. The loss of mature trees will impact immediately but can be visually rectified with semi mature tree planting which will be carried out as soon as possible after removal of the trees. No work will be undertaken until there as been further consultation with the Tree Officer. We will keep you informed of our progress.

Granny’s Meade – Tree Heaven
There will be a tree planting ceremony on Tuesday 11th March 2008 at Granny’s Meade, time to be agreed. If you have purchased a tree, Sally, the Parish Clerk will contact you direct.

As part of our Safe Routes to Schools, we are undertaking a feasibility study to consider the installation of a footbridge across the ditch over Manorial Land in School Green Road. Once all the relevant information is to hand, the Parish Council will decide whether to take this project forward or not. Again we will keep you informed.

Emergency repairs have recently been undertaken to the Skate Park. There has also been some damage to the lighting approaching the MUGA area. We as a Council have approached Totland Parish Council and other interested parties with a view to sharing the running costs of both the MUGA and Skate Park. It would appear that Totland PC are not adverse to the idea of sharing costs, but we still have to hear from other interested parties. I am sure with goodwill on all sides, we should be able to reach an amicable agreement.

Works to the Village Pound should be starting in early summer, if not before. We are still trying to establish the date the Pound was erected. If you have any information on The Pound, please contact the Parish Clerk.

Afton Marsh – a big thank you to the volunteers who have worked so hard on Afton Marsh.
