Chairman's Report - January 2012

Firstly I would like to wish everyone a very prosperous year. We have a lot of projects in hand and big plans for the future of Freshwater.
Firstly, I welcome Jane Blackmore, our newly appointed Financial Officer. I am sure Jane will enjoy her work here as much as we appreciate her help and assisting Sally and Emma with the day to day tasks of running the office.

The FYT Bus group recently held a get together. I was impressed with the presentation and the amount of volunteer drivers who attended the event. A few Parish Councillors from Freshwater and Totland attended which was encouraging to see. The official launch is the 25th January at the west Wight Sports Centre and the Memorial Hall with the under Secretary of State, Norman Baker as Guest of Honour. I have used the FYT Bus myself for an excursion to Newport and was impressed with the service. I wish them good luck.

Cllr Kennett has updated our Annual Plan and I am sure you will all join me in thanking her for her hard work and as we know the plan is a very robust working document for the Parish Council and I think Gill done a splendid job of this update.

The Library management committee is now at the stage where the volunteers will be meeting to discuss the best way forward.

Hooke Memorial Project. Memorial Plaques are aiming to be installed in the Village by 5th May.

Cllr Hobbs reported back from the Good Neighbour Scheme Meeting held at the beginning of January. This scheme provides support for older people in times of need. They are currently looking for volunteers to provide a range of services which allow people to continue living in their own homes independently. Please contact them on 01983 525306 for either more information on volunteering or if you require any of the services the offer.

Diamond Jubilee. The Parish Council are planning a community event on Sunday 3rd June. If you have any suggestions or if you'd like to volunteer, please give us a call on 01983 752000 or e-mail us at freshwaterpc@btconnect.com If you are having your own event please let us know so we can work together as a community to celebrate this special occasion.
Rats. Please can I appeal for locals not to place food out for the animals as it is encouraging the rats.
